GOL Linhas Aéreas Launches Historic Nonstop Service Connecting Rio de Janeiro and New York (JFK)
Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas officially launched its non-stop long-haul expansion connecting Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport (GIG) directly to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Covering a distance of approximately 4,768 miles, this flagship route marks GOL's first venture into widebody long-haul operations. To bridge the nearly 10-hour trans-equatorial gap—which far exceeds the range of single-aisle narrowbody jets—GOL has partnered to wet-lease widebody Airbus A330-200 equipment (operated in partnership with Wamos Air) to initiate 3x weekly service into JFK.
A Major Expansion for Rio & New York Operations
The nonstop corridor opens up critical capacity for passenger and belly-hold cargo traffic between South America and North America. By channeling passengers through its principal hub at Rio's Galeão Airport, GOL offers easy connections to secondary Brazilian markets while feeding its partner networks in the United States.
"It’s always exciting when a new airline comes to JFK. We see so many different carriers here, but every new arrival brings something special."
